Reindeer Run

This was our second "Reindeer Run".  We all met at the Wal-Mart parking lot to put on our antlers and red noses.  There was a perfect number of eight "reindeer."  Rudolph had to stay home due to illness (bad valves).  Santa's sleigh was a '57 commercial bus loaded down with gifts.  As we paraded through Port Angeles toward Ediz Hook, we had lots of people wave and laugh.  They would see the first car and think it was cute.  Then the second car and start wondering.  Then all of a sudden "get" the joke and start waving and laughing.  The Saturday's Market was going on, so there were lots of people on the sidewalks who enjoyed seeing Santa and his "reindeer".
After getting pictures at Ediz Hook, we drove to the Laurel Park Assisted Living Home and spent time with the residents and showed off our herd. We also gave gifts filled with candy to all residents.
We then drove to Sequim and cruised through town.  We ended our cruise at the Old Mill Cafe for lunch.  This has become a wonderful tradition for a winter cruise!

Marc Buehler's '51 Cal-Look
The sixth annual North Olympic Volksfair VW car show was held, for the first time, at Fort Worden in Port Townsend August 24, 25, and 26, 2012.  It was a three-day event and included speakers, a special showing of “The Bus”, and a Saturday evening cruise.

We were very pleased to welcome Winnie Meyers, wife of Bruce Meyers. Bruce Meyers is the creator of the Meyers Manx dune buggy and one of the founding fathers of off-road racing. He was unable to attend due to health reasons, but Winnie graciously agreed to speak in his place.  Bruce filmed a presentation especially for our show and Winnie gave a question/discussion session following the video.

Marc Buehler, one of the founders of the “California-Look” cars, displayed his ’51 Cal-Look Split-window and participated in our speaker’s program.
We also showed pre-release screenings of “The Bus”, a documentary by Damon Ristau about the history of the VW Bus in the U.S.

A cruise was held Saturday evening.  At least twelve VW’s cruised through Port Townsend to Port Hadlock, then on to Egg & I Road and back to Fort Worden.  We had a small group of on-lookers cheering us at the beginning of the cruise.  That was fun!
Awards were presented to winning entries and raffle prizes were given out.

We gathered at the Crescent High School parking lot in Joyce.  Hamburgers, chips, and cola were provided to all entrants.  Our club won a 3rd place ribbon for clubs.  The parade route was lined with citizens of Joyce.  It's such a fun parade to be in.  The people are all so friendly!

On the way home, I took a picture of Jacky and Andy's bus.
