We cruised around Ediz Hook, parts of Port Angeles, and Sequim, and caroled at St. Andrews Assisted Living. The Bugs led the way as "reindeer" and the Buses brought up the rear as sleighs. As per usual, lots of waves and smiles all around as people watched the VW's drive by! Later, we had a lovely Xmas lunch and a cake too.
We had wonderful weather, yet again, for a beautiful Fall cruise through part of the Elwha River Valley. We had breakfast at Joshua's in Port Angeles, then left to cruise around the beautiful roads around the Elwha River and Lake Sutherland. We cruised around the Salt Creek campground where everyone smiled and waved at the VW's! We stopped at various points to see the sights and then ended up at Granny's Cafe for ice cream. I'm happy to report that the confused chipmunk that three of us swerved to avoid is OK!
*Salmon Bake was cancelled, but the Cruise continued in honor of Rita Charles! What a gorgeous day!9/9/2014 The cruise was in dedication of Rita which started at Ediz Hook at the parking area opposite the boat ramp on Sunday, September 7th. We left the parking area at 12:30 pm. The cruise took us around the Elwha and ended up at the Tribal Center where we shared memories of Rita. A few of those who bought tickets joined us on this great cruise, it turned out to be a beautiful day! The cruise was open to everyone.

We held our eighth annual Volksfair VW car show on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the 7 Cedars Casino. We had over 50 cars there. Lots of comments about how fun it was! We had a young man drive up from San Diego (Lemon Grove) to attend the show. The weather was beautiful – lots of sunshine! Everyone was so nice. And we had lots of visiting going on. (VW owners are the nicest people!)
The following VWs won the Top Ten People’s Choice awards (starting with the top vote getter “Best of Show”): ‘67 black Bug (Bill Littlejohn); ‘70 green Hightop Bus Camper (Joshua Jones); ‘69 cobalt blue Beetle (Millie Becker); anthracite ‘63 Ragtop Beetle (Dan Hendrickson); blue ‘66 Beetle (Sheldon Roberts); green/white ‘60 Bus (“Dustin the Bugboy” from Lemon Grove, CA); black & red ‘74 Super Beetle (Vince Doebbler); green & white ‘70 Beetle (Francie Louden); white & purple ‘65 Karmann Ghia (Kathy Feiro); and burgundy ‘73 Super Beetle (Corinna Clemens). Dustin won the “Farthest Distance Traveled” trophy! We collected 134 pounds of non-perishable food that was donated to the Port Angeles Food Bank on Monday. A big “Thank You” to all who participated in our show. It was a true pleasure to meet those who were here last year and meet those who were new to our show! It’s Friday, July 4, 2014! Nine VWs started out at Paul’s home in Diamond Point. We decorated our cars with tinsel, flags, bunting, and sparkly decorations. We looked so festive. Then we headed down to the starting point near the lagoon. We gathered at the starting point of the parade. Here are some pictures taken along the parade route. The residents of Diamond Point love their parade! They welcome you with cheers, claps, cookies, candy, and lots of goodwill! It makes for a very fun day! After the parade, we gathered back at Paul’s home for pizza, mimosas, beer, pop, and lots of desserts! That’s what’s so special about “potlucks” – you never know what will be brought! Today, it was lots of desserts! We had a great time with lots of conversation and sharing! A big “thank you” to everyone who came! And huge and special “thank you” to Paul for hosting this wonderful gathering.
Members attended the Raker’s Car Show in Port Townsend on Saturday, June 28, 2014. It gave us a chance to distribute flyers of our upcoming car show at 7-Cedars on July 26th. Annie baked a basketful of “Bug Cookies” for the visitors (see picture). They were delicious! The weather was gorgeous up until about 2:00 when the clouds opened up and it poured hard! Everyone took cover in their cars except those with extra big umbrellas! But it was a fun show. Lots of VW lovers came by and looked us over! There was, also, a ‘56 VW bus dressed up as a Sno-Cone vendor. Yum!
Club members cruised to the Eagle Creek Saloon in Lilliwaup on Hood Canal. We started at Walmart in Port Angeles and drove south on Hwy 101. We joined up with a fourth member at Discovery Bay. We stopped for lunch at the Eagle Creek Saloon where we enjoyed great conversation and fun! We then drove a short way down the canal to Hoodsport where we visited the Hoodsport Winery. The weather was very nice, with a little sprinkle over Mount Walker.
This was our first cruise to the Hungry Bear Cafe. We left the Walmart parking lot in the morning and picked up two more cars on the way. There were nine bugs and a Vanagon with a total of fourteen members. The weather was wonderful. We had a little rain as we drove around Lake Crescent, but otherwise it was sunny and gorgeous. There is something really cute about all those VWs tootling down the road together. Nothing like it! We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at Hungry Bear Cafe. They were very accommodating and the service was very pleasant. After breakfast we hit the road again. We drove to the Hwy. 113 interchange and headed north on Hwy. 113, then onto Hwy. 112 and headed back to Port Angeles. We stopped at Pillar Point along the strait to enjoy the aromatic low tide. Then headed home. What fun!
