Trunk or Treat! 2022

10/31/2022

We finally were able to pull off Trunk or Treat after 2 years of trying and it was a blast! We all parked our VW's on the street in front of Theresa and Bruce's house, filled our trunks with lotsa candy (and some lights) and let the kids go to town! We were there from 5pm to 7pm and if we were hungry, there were snacks available inside the house. So many happy kids and the parents got to see a mini VW show. Carmen dressed up as Garfield, and the kids loved it! Best of all, the rain managed to hold off, so we were dry, but not necessarily warm except for Carmen in her heated Garfield costume!

Canal Cruise 2022

The Canal Cruise to Hoodsport was probably our longest, in terms of time, cruise ever! The weather was beyond gorgeous and warm, but it was a little smoky, especially when we finally reached the top of Mt. Walker. We all met up at the usual places and cruised to Hoodsport through Quilcene. It turned out to be a Bug-only cruise! We stopped at Rocky Brook Falls for a super short hike along the creek to the Falls and it was all so picturesque.  We visited the Hoodsport Winery, where we purchased some wine and found a bunch of handmade greeting cards with VW's them. Francie bought them all of course!  Then lunch at The Tides where the food and service were excellent! Last stop was a dusty climb up Mt. Walker only to be rewarded with a very limited view due to all the smoke. Our club mascot, Daisy, made sure everybody stayed in line and paid proper attention to her. Then home, where we barely made it before the sun went down.

This would have been a great spot for Nate to propose to Carmen, but they're already married. Maybe next time.

Hurricane Ridge Run and Picnic 2022

8/28/2022

Well, we finally made it up to Hurricane Ridge on Sunday after 2 years of trying.  We had ten cars and thirteen members on the cruise.  The weather was gorgeous - sunny and warm, but not too warm.  The scenery was beautiful.  We reached the top and cruised through the parking area which was full.  Many tourists stopped to enjoy the many VWs.  We made quite an entrance.
When we arrived at our usual picnic spot beyond the visitor's center, it was full.  We cruised to the next picnic area and it was also full.  So we decided to cruise back down the hill and picnic at the Heart O' The Hills camping area.  Bruce led us to a lovely spot in the woods.  We enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers, macaroni salad, veggies, chips and lots of desserts including a VW decorated strawberry cake roll made by Annie; a homemade cherry pie made by Rodney, brownies, and an apple pie.  Yummy!
We enjoyed lots of talking and sharing."

Joyce Daze Parade

Our club participated in the Joyce Daze Parade on Saturday, August 6, 2022.  Seven VWs with seven members and three family members participated.  The weather was gorgeous.  We did a lot of visiting and talking!  There were many spectators, more than in past years.  And they were so happy, lots of laughing and waving.  You could tell the kids were really enjoying themselves!  Much dancing!  And - we received first place for clubs (blue ribbon).  The lady presenting the ribbon said we were not the only club.  Dream machines was there.  So, we did not win by default!  We actually earned it!

There's a Bug in My Rear! Cruise 2022

It was a beautiful day in April for the annual Bug in My Rear Cruise! We took the scenic route via Chicken Coop Road to the Chimacum Cafe for lunch and pie!

4 cars started the show at the Port Angeles Wally World parking lot.

Here we are having lunch! Oh, no wait, that was later.
Picture
We hadn't had a cruise breakdown in a while, so Theresa broke the streak! At Discovery Bay she discovered her brakes had locked up. As most of us stood around being useless, Dave saved the day! He got the brake un-stuck and we continued on to Chimacum! I called the cafe, advising them we'd probably be a little late.
Picture
We finally arrived at the Chimacum Cafe, but we weren't late like we thought we were going to be, but the restaurant hostess made us wait outside because I'd told them we wouldn't be there til 12:30. So we had to wait til 12:30. We had a great lunch with awesome service, but there wasn't much pie because they'd been swamped the day before. Another fun cruise is in the books!

Egg & I Cruise 2022

The Strait Air Volksgrüppe kicked off the the first day of Spring with a cruise to Port Townsend! The weather wasn't super Spring-like, but at least it wasn't raining. Seems most of our members were still hiding under their rocks waiting for sunshine since there were only 4 cars on the cruise this time around. This is one of the best cruises with great scenery and some fun curvy roads with very little traffic for us to hold up. No one got lost or broke down either! We ended the cruise at the Highway 20 Roadhouse for lunch in Port Townsend. Great service and food there!

Shack Wacky Cruise 2022

2/12/2022

Welp, we here at the Strait Air Volksgrüppe are hoping for our first full year of club happenings since the start of the pandemic. We kicked things off with our first cruise of the season to shake off a serious case of the shack wackies after a long cold winter! We cruised from Port Angeles down to Quilcene via the scenic route and we actually had some serious sunny and kind of warm weather to boot! We stopped for lunch at the Gear Head Deli in Quilcene where all the sandwiches are named after cars (there's no Volkswagen sandwich though!) The cruise went off without a hitch except for one wrong turn which was quickly corrected, and no breakdowns, but Annie did learn that she probably should check her brake fluid level more often than every 10 years.

One of our favorite things to do as a club is hold up traffic.
