We had our annual Salt Creek Cruise & Potluck on August 16, 2026. The weather was very nice. Five VWs joined the group plus a Mercedes van. The Mercedes van was driven by Jacques and Jan Ollivier who have participated in the Treffen cruises and was in town visiting with the Loudens. They graciously accepted our invitation to join us. They are super VW fans and own several VWs. After lunch, we drove through the bunkers, then home.

We participated in the Joyce Daze Parade on August 1, 2026. We had seven VWs. And we were presented with a white ribbon honoring our club's participation. We met at the Laird's Corner Park 'n Ride where it poured rain. By the time we arrived in Joyce, the rain stopped and we had sun the rest of the afternoon. While waiting for the parade to start, we enjoyed treats under the tree. The parade was a lot of fun. The crowd loved the VWs and we felt very welcomed.        Our cruise to Port Gamble and beyond was a lot of fun. The weather stayed nice - overcast but no rain. And the sun poked through at times. We had lunch at Puerto Vallarta, a few miles beyond Port Gamble. Then we looped around the Kitsap Peninsula with a stop at Hansville to take pictures. We then drove back to Port Gamble where some stopped to shop and visit the museum and others drove home. It was such a nice cruise! Below are some pictures taken in Hansville.      Welp, the first cruise of the year to shake off the cobwebs is in the books! Since the cobwebs were still present preceding the cruise, we used the old Granny's Loop route rather than making it a mystery cruise. Before we left Wallyworld, Reeko presented the ladies each a single red rose for Valentine's Day! Reeko is a very smart guy. It was kinda rainy when we started, but the sun came out not long after we were on our way. We stopped at the Fairmount Diner for breakfast, and as usual, the food and service was excellent! We stopped under the Elwha Bridge to check out the river and for a group pic, and as a special treat, Tony had the equipment to make giant soap bubbles! Tony barely got a few successful bubbles launched before we took off again. We cruised through the Salt Creek campground, and shortly after we left there, some of us saw a huge herd of elk, and some of us kept our eyes on the road. We cruised through beautiful scenery around Lake Crescent and then to the cruise end at the Black Diamond Community Hall. But there was an event being held there and we were blocking other people's cars, so we moved across the street to Karen's for a little socializing before we all took off for our respective abodes.  The starting line at Wallyworld.  Lots of early runoff. River was the highest I'd ever seen it. We're gonna have a drought this summer, y'all.  Tony and his giant bubble! It's about the size of a Beetle!  If you look at the center of this photo, you can see the bubble floating away  Another bubble! Or is it a ghost from cruises past? Look at this perfect red rose. Just look at it! Thank you, Reeko!  Rarely seen in nature: VW drivers outside of their cars. Take the picture so we can get back in!  Post cruise debriefing!  Karen, call pest control! You have too many Bugs in your yard!
Would you believe I forgot to take pictures that day? I always forget to take pictures on club events because I'm so busy participating in the event!
So you'll have to trust me that the Pizza Party did indeed happen despite no photographic evidence of it. We all gathered at Westside Pizza in Sequim for our first club event of the year. This year's crowd was smaller than last year's, but no less fun. The pizza was delish, the conversation lively with lots of laughs (as usual). One must possess a sense of humor when you own a VW! |
