Four VWs with five club members attended the Rhody Parade in Port Townsend on Saturday, May 18th. We staged just off Lawrence Street from 10:00 to about 1:30. The Ferndale High School band lined up next to us for a short time while they waited to join the parade. They were very impressive! The parade started at 1:00, and we joined in at about 1:40. Lots of spectators along the route. After the parade, we drove to the Bayview Restaurant for lunch. The weather was lovely - a little overcast, a little sun, and not too cold. We're looking forward to next year.
Waiting in the staging area.
We're being serenaded by the Ferndale marching band!
The Rhody Festival theme this year was "The Greatest Rhody" and everything was decorated circus Big Top style. I was fretting that other than VW's being known as "clown cars", we weren't decorated in anything special. But along came a lady giving out free clown noses and we were saved! What's better than a bunch of clowns driving clown cars?
Going down Lawrence Street waving to the adoring fans!
We saw a lot of cute kids enjoying the parade. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to throw them candy or car parts.
There were a group of ladies "judging" the parade and they held up placards to show each entry how they rated. I was so happy to get a "10", but then I realized the only card they had was a 10. Everybody got a 10. Or maybe an 01.
The view from above! My husband applied an effect to make us look like toy cars in a miniature town1
