Reindeer Run!

12/19/2015

The Strait Air Volksgrüppe 2015 Reindeer Run started at ground zero, also known as the Port Angeles Wal-Mart parking lot. There, we collected food for the canned food drive and attached antlers and noses to the Beetles. Karen made the cutest candy cane reindeer for all of us cruisers and everyone at St. Andrews! We had three "sleighs" this year! From there we took off for the photo-op at Ediz Hook. Miraculously, we had pretty magnificent weather for the whole thing. Then, off to St. Andrews Assisted Living where we serenaded the residents with out melodic voices. This year we were accompanied by the talented guitarist, Nate, with Carmen on tambourine. Somehow, we just couldn't get the hang of "We Wish You a Merry Christmas", but the people clapped for us anyway. Francie made little goodie boxes to hand out and we also personally wished each person a Merry Christmas before we left to continue the cruise. Once we hit 101, Annie's Bug lost an antler, so she pulled to the side of the road and she made Dan go out and get it. Once again re-antlered, Annie and Dan caught up to the rest of crew and we took the scenic route into Sequim. We stopped to visit Dan and Linda's Beetle that was lit up on display at the corner of Sequim Ave and Washington. From there it was off to Dan and Linda's for a great Christmas Party/Lunch that Linda cooked. Beef tenderloin, scalloped potatoes, roasted veggies, and a salted caramel chocolate tart that Annie made for dessert. Jan handed out some really pretty washcloths she had made as gifts and Annie made VW Beetle cookie Christmas tree ornaments. Lunch was so delicious! Thank you Linda for staying home to cook while we were out making trouble!

Dave held a Valve Class on Saturday, November 7th.  It was a "refresher" for most, but a lot of fun.  (Everyone can use a refresher, especially when it's with friends!)  Lunch was provided.  Clam chowder and German Chocolate Cake!  Yum!"

Granny's Loop Cruise!

10/18/2015

Our Granny's Loop Cruise started with breakfast at Priscilla's Cruise-In Café in Port Angeles.  From there we cruised through Port Angeles, up the truck route to Hwy 101, and then to Salt Creek Rec Park.  There we cruised through the park and then on through the bunkers and camping area.  We also visited East Beach picnic area.

We ended up at Granny's Café for ice-cream cones.  The scenery was beautiful, with all the fall leaves.  There's nothing cuter than VWs tootling through fallen leaves!

Salt Creek Cruise and Picnic!

9/30/2015

Our Salt Creek Cruise and Picnic was held on Saturday, September 27th.  The weather was wonderful - lots of sun and the temperature was warm as long as you stayed in the sun!  We had a little wind that died down in the afternoon.  Seven VWs cruised including a few bugs, a convertible bug, a Thing, a bus, and a Ghia.  We had a good representation of VWs!  The food was good with prime rib sandwiches, pasta salad, spinach dip, and desserts.  Yum!  But the friendships and conversations were the highlights of the day!

Hurricane Ridge Run!

8/16/2015

We cruised to Hurricane Ridge, about 17 miles south of Port Angeles, on Sunday, August 16th.  We had seven VWs with an eighth one joining us at the ranger station to see us off (it had to get back into town, but wanted to say "hello".)

The weather was gorgeous, with no wind this time, and the view was even better.  Lots of deer, camp robbers, and even a chipmunk joined us at the table.  Hamburgers, hot dogs, coleslaw, kale salad, chips, pop and ice-cold water filled us up.  For dessert we had Paul's famous cherry/pineapple dump cake (yum) and Theresa's Cinnamon Roll Cake (yum, again!).

It was so nice to get together and share conversation.  What a fun time!

We participated in the July 4th Diamond Point Parade. The weather was hot and beautiful. A really good turnout of people, and a lot of fun! We all decorated our cars American style and Tim's Beetle even had a bubble machine! After the parade we had a pizza potluck at Paul's.

Canal Cruise!

6/13/2015

Our cruise on Saturday, June 13, took us down the Hood Canal (Hwy 101).  We met at Wal-Mart in P.A.  Then again at the Wal-Mart in Sequim to collect members.  We also stopped in Discovery Bay to collect two more members.  From there we drove down Hwy 101 through Quilcene, Brinnon, and stopped at the Eagle Creek Saloon for lunch.  Delicious burgers, fish 'n chips, etc.  The weather couldn't have been better!  Warm, sunny, not too much wind.  After lunch we drove to the Hoodsport Winery where some of us picked up some essentials.  On the way home, we drove up to the Mt. Walker viewpoint.  Long, dusty, barely two-lane road - but with a spectacular view at the top.  You can see Seattle from here!  Then home.  Lovely cruise with equally lovely people!  Such fun!

Hungry Bear Loop Cruise.....uh, er, I mean Hungry Granny!

5/17/2015

The weather started out a little cloudy, but warm, for the start of our Hungry Bear cruise, but as the afternoon wore on, the sun came out for a beautiful day traveling along Lake Crescent and the Strait. After meeting in the Port Angeles Wal-Mart parking lot, we cruised to Granny's Cafe for breakfast. Originally, our destination was going to be the Hungry Bear for lunch, but we were told that due to the opening of fishing season, they would probably be too busy to accommodate us......which, sounds, well, kinda fishy. We thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality and food at Granny's, complete with a witty awesome waiter that made the meal even more fun. With full bellies, we cruised along Lake Crescent, and right around 12;30 pm, the height of lunch hour, we passed the Hungry Bear. Only two cars in the parking lot. We laid on our horns to perhaps let them know they missed out on about $200 worth of business that day. On to Sappho, where we turned around to loop back to  Pillar Point, Crescent Beach, then finally to Joyce, where we all split off to go home. It's one of the most beautiful cruises we take all year. Awesome cars, awesome people, awesome scenery........how can you go wrong?

Sequim Irrigation Festival Show 'n Shine

5/9/2015

The Sequim Irrigation Festival parade was held on May 9th.  Members from our club met at the Shipley Center, in Sequim, then drove over to Evergreen Collision where we staged for the "Hot Rods & Harleys Cruzz".  The car parade was held immediately prior to the Grand Parade.  The car parade took us down Washington Street (the main street of Sequim) and ended at the Wal-Mart parking lot where a couple hundred classic cars participated in a show 'n shine car show.  The last picture shows the Sequim Irrigation Festival royalty.  Princess Morgan King (2nd from right) owns the cute little yellow and white bug behind them.  The weather was incredible and we all enjoyed the event.

Bug in my Pie Cruise

4/18/2015

April 18th brought excellent weather and a fine day for a cruise! We started out at the Port Angeles Wal-Mart and cruised down through Happy Valley to end at the Chimacum Cafe for lunch and PIE. Great conversation and laughter to be had! Luckily the only bugs in the pie were the VW's in the parking lot!
